Brampton Hotel-Convention Centre Breaks Ground
BRAMPTON—Construction of Brampton’s newest convention centre and hotel officially began today with a groundbreaking ceremony by the entrepreneurs behind the project joined by the Mayor of Brampton and local politicians.
“Brampton is the jewel in the 905 ring around the GTA, and today, this new Pearson Convention Centre has certainly added to the sparkle,” said Mayor Susan Fennell. “This new convention centre, ideally located on 10 acres, is next door to Canada’s busiest airport. Brampton is proud to welcome both the convention centre and Mohinder Minhas to the city.”
The Pearson Convention Centre is the brainchild of Minhas, former owner of the Mississauga Convention Centre. The first phase of the project involves building and opening a convention centre that can accommodate up to 2,500 people. The second phase will include construction of a six to eight-storey hotel.
“We are in discussion now with a number of major hotel chains,” said Alessandro Palazzo, Vice-President of Triaxis Construction Ltd. of Mississauga, project manager for the convention centre and hotel. “We are optimistic that by the spring, we will have a hotel chain ready to break ground.”
Palazzo’s firm is both project manager and contractor of the new facility and is working with HCA Architecture and the owner and operator of Mississauga’s upscale Barbizon restaurant.
“The many corporations within our city look forward to using the Pearson Convention Centre for such important company events as product launches, business seminars and trade shows,” said City Councillor Dick Metzak, Chair of Tourism Brampton and Vice-Chair of the City’s Economic Development Committee. “The Pearson Convention Centre will not only provide a good-sized venue for conferences, it will help attract tourism to Brampton.”
